Meryl Streep

Meryl Streep Meryl Streep is a three-time Oscar-winning actress born in New Jersey in 1949. Streep holds the record for the most Academy Award nominations of any actor, a total of 17. She is also the most-nominated performer in Golden Globes Awards history with her total of 26 nominations and eight wins.

Meryl Streep began her illustrious career on stage before breaking into film in the 1970s with a role in Julia. She earned her first Oscar nomination for 1978’s The Deer Hunter and her first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in 1979’s Kramer vs. Kramer.

Meryl Streep continued to captivate audiences in the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s winning her second Oscar – and first for Best Actress – for Sophie’s Choice in 1982, followed by standout performances in the films Out of Africa, Postcards from the Edge, The Hours, The Bridges of Madison County, Adaptation, Doubt, The Manchurian Candidate, Julie & Julia, Mamma Mia! and The Devil Wears Prada, where she played the villainous yet marvellous fashion magazine editor, Miranda Priestly. In 2011, Meryl Streep earned her second Best Actress Oscar for her portrayal of Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady.

Meryl Streep has been married to sculptor Don Gummer since 1978 and the couple have four children together: Hank (born 1979), Mamie (born 1983), Grace (born 1986) and Louisa (born 1991).
