Diamond Jubilee Hat Tricks: Princess Beatrice V Princess Eugenie

Get updates from MyDaily Staff:

If ever there was an occasion to wear a hat (apart from at a wedding), the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations is it.

And Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice both decided to don headgear for the Big Jubilee Lunch at All Saints Church - with differing success levels.

While Princess Eugenie looked sleek and sophisticated with a coral dress and understated black hat with matching coral accent, Princess Beatrice donned what looked like a Victorian child's bonnet.

Her tie-dye effect dress and mismatched shoes were also less successful than her sister's apricot number.

But, on the subject of hats, the Queen herself ruled the style category with her cream Swarovski-covered bouclé number, while the Duchess of Cambridge (named Hat Person of the Year in 2011), also wowed with her scarlet stunner.

I think it is totally ridiculous to bring such scorn on a young woman's hat. It is perfectly fine, some may even call it retro! If any other woman was seen wearing that hat it would be considered appropriate for a formal occasion what ever their age.

Beatrice looks lovely. She has a great hat which does not try to emulate the other guests'.

What does it matter what they LOOK like, it's what they DO that counts. Our plays a very important international role on our behalf as well as conducting herself with poise and grace. The story of the intruder sitting by her bedside for hours due to lack of security was amazing and told how brave, controlled and eloquent Her Majesty really is. They are not just figure heads they ALL have jobs!

Beatrice's hat suits her.

Just LOOK at the photo of the wretched bemedalled oaf above. Keep looking. Take in his stars, his decorations, his expression, his clothes, his air of entitlement. Remember what he does to make his money. Keep looking. Then ask yourself, "Do I really want to be a monarchist?"
05:30 PM on 06/04/2012
without the monarchy, this country would be just 'bland Britannia'.

the wedding proved they haven't a clue - they need to sack their fashion advisors

Princess Beatrice's hat adviser is clearly having a laugh.

I will lose sleep on this hat as that is all I have going on in my life.
Yes, it is all about fashion!!!
If they are happy and not hurting anyone then who cares?

Hats off to both Princesses, they look lovely!!!
07:35 AM on 06/04/2012
Gosh cant we leave people alone, I think both Princesses look great. They dress for themselves and should be allowed to. So bored with the British desire to criticize and destroy. If you cant say anything nice say nothing at all. Thats what i was taught.

Journalists contributed to the tragic death of Diana, now you have your putrid claws into this young lady. Do you never learn? The hat is fine in my opinion but your malice is not.
06:35 AM on 06/04/2012
Princess Beartrice "style blunder" in a hat that "looked like a Victorian child's bonnet"?

OK - perhaps her hat was not the most exquisite ever seen, but I suspect that comment tells us far more about a journalist desperate to polish up a reputation for "hard-nosed and edgy" journalism than it will ever tell us about the hat.
