Miami City Guide

Of the world's great metropolises, Miami does not rank especially highly in terms of cultural élan, urban vitality, historical riches or industrial might (its celebrated Sound Machine notwithstanding).

Truth be told, its unremarkable downtown - all overstuffed freeways, oversized office blocks and lifeless streets - could exist anywhere in the USA. The point is - and it's a pretty major point - Miami doesn't exist anywhere. It's perched on the tip of Florida, beneath a blazing sun and surrounded by warm, blue water. For the casual visitor, Miami's contribution to global tourism boils down to two things: beaches and bars, both of which exist in abundance in the moneyed and sun-kissed resort neighbourhood of South Beach.

If you aren't interested in either, Miami might not be the vacation destination for you. If you fancy doing something else in addition to bronzing and boozing among the beautiful people: well, that's where we come in....

Miami is an amazing place to visit. I'm not a club enthusiast but I stay on south Beach as I love the architecture and the museums (eg Wolfsonian which has a great art deco collection). I also enjoy visiting the surrounding areas of Coconut Grove, Coral Gables & Virginia Key - Vizcaya mansion and the Venetian pool are well worth seeing. Like Britain, you have to watch which areas you're going into and also in making sure you don't get ripped off by overpriced food. If you keep your eyes open on all counts and wear plenty of sunscreen then you should be in for an enjoyable holiday

Luv Florida have been to outskirts of Miami and was not impressed. Spent a lot of time in Lake County a place called Clermont and reveled in Florida. Purchase my own little place and a truck and would have retired there given a fair chance.

Getting a VISA proved difficult and I believe the legal assistance I got from the US was a scam and advice obtained in UK later proved that.

Floridians are gr8 people and I look forward to my next trip.
