Last night we were watching The Apprentice in horrified fascination. Not because of the selling, pitching or inventing attempts of the candidates (although those were, by turns, cringeworthy, depressing and baffling). No. We were actually busy trying to comprehend what level of reality television stress leads a person to try matching their eye makeup to their blouse. And their shoes. And their suitcase.
At the same time.

I'm really troubled by the way that woman on The Apprentice does her purple eye make-up...has she never heard of blending?!

The girl with the matching purple eyeshadow and ruffle top is clearly going on to a flamenco competition in the 80s afterwards. #Apprentice

Eyeshadow tip #1302- Don't listen to the hype, purple goes with all eye colours/ skin tones. Apply liberally. #apprentice

If you want to rock a purple eye (and you should definitely give it a go) the best advice we can give you is to experiment with blending. Add a bronze tone for warmth or a dark grey for smoky-eyed drama - our bright eyes gallery below will help you out with more tips for rocking a bold colour!
-
Blend the colour right up to the eyebrows, as seen on the Victoria Beckham Spring/Summer catwalk.

- Go green...
Use Barry M's Dazzle Dust to create a bold, smoky effect over the eye. Be brave and try their aquamarine shades to recreate the look seen on the Spring/Summer catwalks. The colour is electric and the powder formula is easy to use too; blend over the crease of the eye and dab underneath before tracing the inner rims with a pencil. For maximum impact, team with a cherry red lip colour such as Topshop's Infrared shade.

Dazzle Dust, £4.59 available from Barry M and Infrared Lipstick, £8 available from Topshop.

-
Voila! Check out the Loewe Spring/Summer 2011 show for bright eyes (and lips) inspiration.

- Go orange...
This Orange Crush eyeshadow shade is hot stuff, although not for the faint-hearted. This colour was seen at the Derek Lam show, worn with a touch of white highlighter on the eyelids and a nude shade on the lips.

Line the eye lid, starting in the inner corner and trace along the lashes with a brush. Add a flick to the end for a 60s feel before dabbing the white highlighter in the corners and under the lower lash line. Keep the cheeks and lips neutral to really set off the tangerine shade.

Estée Lauder Orange Crush Eyeshadow, £16 available from Estée Lauder and Maxfactor Colour Perfection Duo, £6.49 available from Boots.

- The essentials
And don't forget about the essential eye tools before you get started. Use an eye makeup primer to keep eyeshadow in place and have a good quality brush to hand to ensure smooth, even application. Finish your bold look with a touch of liner and a lash lengthening mascara.

Benefit Badgal Waterproof Liner, £14 available from Benefit.

Chantecaille Faux Cils Mascara, £33 available from Space NK.

Nars Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base and Eye Brush, £18 and £28 available from Nars.

- Go purple...
Mac's Mineralize Eyeshadow creates that mystical, dazzling effect, without looking too harsh. The duo colour palette means that the bronze colour can be blended in to tone the purple down, or added for extra sparkle underneath the eye. Add a black liner on the upper lid for extra definition and wear with a sheer lipgloss for an ultra glam look.

Mac's Plushglass in Ample Pink, £16 and Mineralize Eyeshadow in Odd Couple, £15.50 available from Mac Cosmetics.
