Mischa Barton (almost) Succeeds In Tapping The Flapper Trend

We've been banging on quite a bit about the trend for all things 1920s. Partly due to Gucci's glitzy jazz age spring show, partly in anticipation of Baz Lurmann's version of The Great Gatsby and party because we just love flapper style.

With this in mind, we were almost thrilled that Mischa Barton got on board with the 1920s trend at 5th Annual Hollywood Domino Gala & Tournament in Los Angeles last night.

We say almost because we can't help feel that this dress would have benefited from getting acquainted with an iron before being paraded on the red carpet. Still, we give full marks to the glam hair and makeup, and we're also rather partial to those sparkly shoes.

Best red carpet beauty of all time

Grace Kelly
 You only need to look back to the fabulous 50s to see how red carpet beauty should be done. Grace Kelly was the epitome of chic as she arrived at the Oscars in 1956 with a sleek bun, groomed eyebrows, lovely lips and minimal accessories. Pared-back but perfect.

 Julia Roberts was picture-perfect when she was awarded the Best Actress Oscar for Erin Brokovich in 2001. The smudgy charcoal shadow made her eyes look like liquid chocolate, and the brunette retro hairdo was the perfect match for her vintage gown.

 For the Oscars in 2003, Kate Hudson oozed golden girl to complement her delicate Champagne lace dress. The white-blonde updo and icy pink lips and cheeks were a match made in makeup heaven.

 When Charlize Theron won the  Best Actress Oscar for Monster in 2004, she was more than camera-ready for her big moment. A gorgeous vintage hairdo was the perfect frame for the chocolate smoky eyes, bronzed cheeks and barely-there nude lip gloss.
Michelle Williams
 The crowds were blown away by Michelle Williams' entire Oscars 2006 ensemble, hailing her perfect styling from head to toe. Beauty-wise, her statement ruby lips made the perfect contrast to her alabaster skin and mustard-coloured dress, while the earthy eyeshadow brought out the russet lowlights in her gorgeous old-school hairdo.
Kate Moss
 A sweep of glitzy gold eyeshadow teamed with bronze cheeks and just-kissed lips made for a fabulous Kate Moss beauty moment at the Costume Institute Gala Celebrating Anglomania: Tradition and Transgression in British Fashion in 2006.
Natalie Portman
 We can't think of any other star who pulls off a gamine crop with such aplomb. Natalie Portman was a vision at the Golden Globes 2006 with her nut-brown eyes highlighted by thick, separated lashes, and her baby-pink cheeks complemented by matching lips.
Scarlett Johansson
 The eyes have it: Scarlett Johansson donned dream makeup at the Costume Institute Gala Celebrating Anglomania: Tradition and Transgression in British Fashion in 2006. Her almond-shaped peepers were perfectly enhanced with sultry shadow, there was just the right amount of apricot blush,  and lips were a pretty soft pink. And we're seriously in love with those silver art deco earrings, too.
Salma Hayek
 So-stunning Salma! Every element of Ms Hayek's 2006 Oscars Vanity Fair party makeup was no less than perfect, from the petal-pink lips to the cocoa-coloured eyeshadow.
Cate Blanchett
 An elegant, sophisticated beauty, Cate Blanchett's Oscars 2007 makeup was pure class, from the flawless complexion and the soft apricot cheeks, to the subtle smoky eyes and softly shimmering lips.
Katherine Heigl
 Katherine Heigl put in a brilliant beauty performance at the Golden Globes in 2007 with her pretty-pretty mix of coral lips and cheeks and sultry charcoal eyes.

 Queen of ethereal beauty Kate Bosworth was on her usual fine form at the Vanity Fair Oscars party in 2009. A light dusting of makeup allowed her amazing skin to dazzle, along with that stunning glittery dress.
Angelina Jolie
 Angelina Jolie was, quite literally, breathtaking at the Oscars in 2009 when she was nominated for Best Actress for Changeling. A pink pillowy pout, clear-as-glass complexion and sexy lined eyes were the perfect match for those Lorraine Schwartz 115-carat Colombian emerald drop earrings.

 Many people were holding their breath to see who would win the style battle at the 2009 Oscars: Jennifer or Angelina. And Ms Aniston definitely held her own with her signature California dreaming style. The slightly-tousled blonde locks, that plait,  and the sun-kissed skin all ensured the actress stood out a mile.

 Orange-red lips, glittering gold eyeshadow, eye-popping eyeliner and pretty pink cheeks created the perfect Oscars look for Cameron Diaz in 2010. Side-swept curls finished the look off rather nicely, too.
