Iceland City Guide

It might seem contradictory to travel somewhere known for its icy climate during the coldest months of the year – but arranging your trip to Iceland for late autumn or Spring helps you miss the busy tourist season, and gives you the chance to see the famous Northern Lights, which are set to be the most impressive this year with solar activity at its peak in 2012.

And if you miss the October to March window for the spectacular lights show, visitors can enjoy whale and puffin watching, the impressive geysers and waterfalls, centuries of Viking history and a unique spa experience at the Blue Lagoon all year round. Take a look below for a full round-up of the best things to see and do in Iceland.

Where's the money they owe us!
People's pensions were affected by their refusal to pay us back.... how do they expect us to afford to go there on holiday? ... and why would we want to?

Get a grip the lot of you. At the end of the day your born, you live and you die. Pretty simple. Why would you waste an iota of your time complaining about the news run or 'what country owes what'. Enjoy your own life and let those of us interested in Iceland and the northern lights, enjoy it.

~The fish were swiming in Icelandic waters , werent they? The investors tried to get the high interest offerered by Icelandic banks --- don't you know about about high risk investments -- pity the poor icelanders who had to pay bach=k by the draconian use of anti terrorism powers by the Britisg Gov. ( perhaps they should have jailed our own bankers as "terrorists" too) And the first and most disruped nation by the entirely natural eruption was Iceland itself ! Grow up and don't be such a parochial twit!

Sorry... get your facts right... The Cod War (And I was in it!) was not in Icelandic waters... that's why there was a 'war'. You are also wrong about the money they owe. Iceland arbirarily and unilaterally decided not to pay. They didn't seek help from the IMF or anyone else. They just renaged on perfectly ligitimate deals... and it cost us millions. And finally...TWIT.... Iceland was hardly affected by the the eruption which in their own words.. " had a much greater global impact than a local impact" and was cleared up relatively quickly so that tourism could resume, which it did last summer.
