If you're expecting more than a bunch of flowers and a box of chocolates this Valentine's Day, it's probably about time to start dropping big hints about the romantic getaway you've been secretly hoping for.

The Connaught, London
 For a super swanky Valentine's Day with no teddy bears or rose petals in sight, The Connaught is the hotel to head to for a spot of sophisticated romance in the heart of London's Mayfair. This February, the hotel is offering a ‘Truly, Madly, Deeply’ package. Llanwroc Hotel, Cornwall
 The Llanwroc is offering couples a cosy weekend by the beaches of Gorran Haven, complete with pink champagne on arrival, strawberries dipped in chocolate and a three-course dinner in the Gwineas Bistro. Berns Hotel, Stockholm
 If you've done the romantic weekend in Paris thing, how about Valentine's Day in Stockholm this year? Berns Hotel is one of the city's most-loved boutique hotels and their reasonably priced Valentine's package includes two nights’ B&B, dinner in the Asiatiska restaurant and plenty of champagne. If that's not enough romance for you, the Sturebadet spa is also offering Swedish massages for couples and no visit to Stockholm would be complete without a horse and carriage ride around the Djurgården park. Boat house, Regent's Park, London
 For a Valentine's break with a difference, how about a weekend on the water in Regent's Park? It ticks all the cosy and romantic boxes and the girls will be pleased to hear that this boat doesn't exactly scrimp on luxury.  Combe House has just been given the Romantic Hotel of the Year award by Conde Nast Johansens, so if you're planning on whisking your Valentine away, it's best to book up fast (the hotel is already full the weekend before the 14th). Located just outside of Exeter on a 3,500 acre estate, this country manor is just as impressive inside as it is from the out. Four-poster beds and roaring log fires greet guests plus there's a three-course dinner with canapes on offer this Valentine's Day. Grand Hotel Villa Cora, Tuscany
 The fact that Baron Oppenheim built this hotel as a present for his wife in the 1870s is enough to make any girl swoon, even before she arrives on the steps up to this magnificent Florence masterpiece. After a three-year renovation, the Villa Cora has made some new additions to its period architecture, including an underground spa, a heated outdoor pool and some secret tunnels so that guests don't have to go outside en route to the spa in the colder months.
