Yes, you can get pretty ballet pumps from a host of stores, including Topshop, New Look, Miss Selfridge (the list goes on), but it was French Sole that really kickstarted the trend back in the 80s, and it's French Sole that the Duchess turns to when she needs a princess slipper.

The founder of the company, 65-year-old Jane Winkworth, has given an interview to the Daily Mail, in which she reveals Kate literally just picked herself a few new pairs. She said: "I am very lucky that the Middletons wear my shoes without me even asking.

"Carole wore them first and then the girls followed. The Duchess was in a few weeks ago picking up some pairs. She likes the Henrietta style."

The French Sole fancies sell from between £90 and £130, but are likely to become your wardrobe staple, kind of justifying the higher price tag.

Other famous clientele include Angeline Jolie, Katie Holmes and Emma Watson. But it was the fact that the late Princess Diana fell in love with the brand that was really the beginning of their bright future.

Jane used to walk her dog outside Catherine Walker's shop; Catherine admired Jane's flats and she told her she designed them herself.

"She said she had Princess Diana coming round tomorrow – did I want to give her some to show her? Of course, I ran as fast as I could back to my flat and boxed some up."

The princess bought 12 pairs, and continued to buy the pretty pumps until her untimely death.
