Miley Cyrus turned to reveal a dip-dye ponytail on the red carpet: Photo: PA
From the front, Miley Cyrus looked glamorous, grown-up and gorgeous at the American Giving Awards in LA.
Her gold gown featured a beautiful embellished neckline and was teamed with fresh, dewy makeup.

But, as Miley turned to show off the gown's cutout back, she also showcased a new version of the dip-dye trend: the two-toned ponytail.
While the base of Miley's hair was a sophisticated, slick brunette, the bottom half was a contrasting bright bleached blonde.
Love the gown, love the makeup, but the jury's out on the colourblock pony...
- Anne Hathaway
The One Day actress did geek chic for the premiere of Rio. Her look was complete with a messy but volumised ponytail.

- Cheryl Cole
There was no messing with Cheryl at Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. The singer sported a sleek, swept back style - an updated version of the Croydon facelift, perhaps?

- Emma Roberts
Emma Roberts pulled off the scraped back style at the Scream 4 premiere in Hollywood.

- Kim Kardashian
The newlywed arrived on stage at the Do Something Awards with her long, glossy locks tied back in a low ponytail.

- Kirsten Dunst
Dunst proved that you don't have to have long hair to rock a ponytail on the red carpet. Her swept back, wavy do showed off her backless gown at Cannes Film Festival.

- Nicole Kidman
The ponytail got the A-lister treatment from Nicole Kidman at the 2011 Oscars. The side-swept fringe and loose curls make this style a red carpet winner.

- Olivia Wilde
The actress tried out a ponytail with a difference at the Cowboys & Aliens premiere. Quirky or cool? We can't decide.

- Penelop Cruz
Cruz rocked a 50s style updo at the Pirates of the Caribbean 4 premiere at Cannes. Chic, sophisticated and above all, elegant. We wouldn't expect anything less from the actress.

- Taylor Swift
The singer completed her red carpet look with a softly curled ponytail at the 2011 Teen Choice Awards.

- Angelina Jolie
We don't often see Jolie with her hair in an updo, but she opted for a loose ponytail at the premiere of Kung Fu Panda 2. Hair up or down, she's always going to look good.
