A whole host of stars descended on the Beverly Wilshire in California last night for the annual UNICEF charity ball - and we couldn't help but notice a definite mini-trend in glam black evening gowns...

Nicole Richie led the way, in a sleek Osman column gown with daring cut-away sides, which she teamed with a soft updo and heavily-lined eyes.

Diane Kruger also upped the style ante in a backless Emilio Pucci halterneck dress, which had a sheer tiered skirt to allow her to show off her ruby red shoes.

Joan Collins also opted for a classic LBD (long black dress), covering hers up with a matching black blazer and finishing with a glossy fuchsia lip.
