Bon anniversaire, Christian Louboutin! The French shoe brand celebrates its 20th birthday today. Photo:CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN, Rizzoli New York, 2011
Becoming the must-have footwear brand of the past decade, it's probably easier to count the celebrities who haven't been seen sporting a red sole on the red carpet as opposed to those who have - with faithful fans including Victoria Beckham, Blake Lively and Rihanna.
Naturally, such a milestone wasn't going to go uncelebrated, with a glossy coffee table book being released to coincide with the big birthday: a pink leather-bound bible jam-packed with gorgeous imagery of covetable shoes - we'd imagine it's currently sat at the top of many a fashionista's Christmas wish list.
Including a forword by John Malkovich, modelling from Dita Von Teese and Kristin Scott Thomas, and photography from Philippe Garcia, the book really is a work of art within itself - detailing the history of Louboutin's life's work, and the inspirations behind his creativity.
Click on the gallery below to see more imagery from the fashion book:
- Bridget<p> "The shoe reminds me of an American girl escaping her campus and... going wild!"</p>

- Engin Spikes<p> "A cross between a race car and armour..."</p>

- Eugenie<p> "A waltz on very high heels for an Empress..."</p>

- Clovis<p> "An urge to make Madame walk on a bed of caged petals..."</p>

- Lola Montes<p> "A sublime circus heroine by Max Ophuls, hence the colours..."</p>

- Pluminette<p> "Women are birds of paradise..."</p>

- Pensee<p> "One of the most rare and attractive qualities in an artist is when he has a love of work: love of creation, love of invention, love of imagination, and of course, love of detail. All of these qualities are in abundance in the work of Christian Louboutin."</p> <p> - John Malkovich, from the foreword</p>

- Dita Cabaret<p> "Designed for Dita: A tie in trompe-l'oeil style, diamond-tipped on the instep..."</p>

And that's not all. There's also set to be a one-off retrospective exhibition at The Design Museum early next year, meaning you can pop along and see a selection of the most celebrated shoes from the book with your very own eyes.
Bon anniversaire!
The Christian Louboutin exhibition will run from 28 March to 1 July 2012, with tickets priced at £10 for adults, £9 for concessions and £6 for students.
