Dannii's Latest Guilty Pleasure: Downton Abbey

  • Dannii Minogue

I got totally obsessed with Downton Abbey on my recent trip to London. I was busy with the X Factor when the first series aired in the UK, then I was in London working on My Style when it was on television in Australia. The TV commercials got me interested and when friends started raving about it I knew I would be hooked. After one episode (that I had to download on iTunes) it's now my favourite thing to watch when I have some downtime on trips away.

It's so deliciously indulgent – an Edwardian drama which transports me completely to that era. I adore all the fabulous hats and the frocks. So much inspiration and oh, to live in an era when one dressed for dinner!

One of my favourite scenes was when Lady Sybil caused a scandal by having a pantsuit made - and I'm still wondering what Lady Mary got up to with that Turkish diplomat that he didn't live to tell the tale of!!!

I know some people say aspects of the show aren't particularly true to the era but as far as I'm concerned everything from the script to the directing, acting, costumes, makeup and lighting is spot on for my kind of entertainment.

And what a cast! I love Dame Maggie Smith as the icy and conniving Dowager Countess of Grantham, Violet Crawley. Rob James-Collier as footman Thomas Barrow is sure to be even more trouble as the story progresses. And Sophie McShera's Daisy cracks me up every time.

Now I'm thoroughly hooked. I'm not surprised Downton Abbey won four Emmys in September and why nearly 10 million people tune in to watch it. I'm so envious that season two has already premiered in the UK. I'm whizzing through my season one episodes – so I'm on TV-catch up!

Dannii's not alone - find out which newlywed couple are also fans of the TV series here...
