No thanks! 9 out of 10 women don't want to be Kate Middleton
The idea of being swept off our feet by a handsome prince is no longer considered a fairytale ending for modern women. In fact, for most of us, it's the exact opposite.
We've carried out a poll with YouGov and can reveal that 86% of British women - that's 9 out of 10 women - would not want to be Kate Middleton under any circumstances. MyDaily's research found that we are increasingly wary of the trappings of the celebrity spotlight, and Kate's inability to lead a normal life post "I do" - thanks to public scrutiny and media attention - were cited as the biggest deterrents for wannabe princesses.
The poll also revealed a surprisingly traditional expectations towards the royal marriage. One in five women believe the Kate should agree to "love, honour and obey" in her vows, rising to one in three men. Perhaps that's another reason why we don't envy Kate?
Still, Ms Middleton shouldn't get too down - not only is she in line to become queen, she's also gaining momentum as a royal fashion icon. In fact, our research found that she has overtaken another famous Kate in the style stakes. Twenty-three percent of women said that they'd wear an outfit worn by Kate Middleton, compared to just 12% of women who said they'd take the style nod from Kate Moss. What's more, over a third of men said they'd prefer to be William rather than Harry because he is marrying a beautiful bride.
The royal family doesn't come off quite as well. Less than half of the 2,000 people that MyDaily spoke to think that the royal family project a positive image of modern Britain, although only 22% would go as far as abolishing the monarchy.
When it comes to coping in the real world, Prince William is considered the most capable of surviving amongst the little people, while the just 3% thought the Queen could cope without her crown and no one thought that poor old Princess Eugenie could survive without the privileges of royalty.
